Cole’s Story: A Superhero’s Journey

Cole Patrick McKeon is a superhero.

Cole was a six-year-old boy from Waldwick, New Jersey, whose life was marked by extraordinary courage and an unyielding spirit. Diagnosed with Stage 4 neuroblastoma—a rare and aggressive cancer —at the age of two, Cole's journey was one of resilience and hope. Despite the grim prognosis, he faced each challenge with the heart of a superhero. He  is a superhero.

His battle began with a persistent stiff neck, leading his mom to bring him to a pediatrician's visit that would change their lives. The diagnosis was swift and severe: Stage 4 Neuroblastoma.

Throughout his treatment, Cole became a beacon of strength. He donned a Superman cape, embodying the hero he aspired to be. His community rallied around him, forming "Cole's Crew," a group of family, friends, and strangers united in support. Fundraisers, meal trains, and constant prayers filled his days with love and encouragement.

Despite undergoing chemotherapy, immunotherapy trials, and facing numerous infections and setbacks—including a bout with pneumonia during the COVID-19 pandemic—Cole's spirit remained unbroken. He spent much of his time at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Sloan Kettering where he was surrounded by the unwavering support of his parents, Kevin and Stephanie, and his baby sister, Emily.

On August 23, 2022, Cole passed away, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and inspiration.

Cole's story is a testament to the power of community, love, and the human spirit. Though his time with us was brief and our hearts are broken for him and his family, his impact was profound, reminding us all of the strength that lies within even the smallest among us.
